Rimworld prepare carefully beta 182/21/2023 Like I said earlier, you can craft the experience to make it way less of a rogue like and more a sim.įor example, using prepare carefully (workshop) you can set your starting hand as it were, you can have your initial survivors be very capable, dictate the amount of resources you start with, and what's nearby, set the chance for medical conditions to occur, and outright bar events from happening (no more short circuits thank you very much!) and if you select one of the more forgiving AI directors, it becomes much more of a town sim than a lalalagoingsowell-everybodyded excercise in frustration. But the thing about games like these is that even when I'm not actively playing, it's fun to look at other players' builds just to see what kind of layouts they come up with, and an OT here would be ideal. And RimWorld is very much a game about reacting to sporadic, hysterical chaos. I keep meaning to take another crack at RimWorld now that the game's feature set has more or less stabilized, although I wonder if I'll be able to get back to it after playing Oxygen Not Included, which is more my kind of thing-more about reacting to constant resource pressure than to sporadic chaos. But it's true that the lack of coverage here is totally out of proportion to how huge, active, and content-packed the games are, and just how much there is to talk about. It's probably no surprise that games like these, which monopolize all of your attention for long stretches of time, are more naturally conducive to discussion on single-game communities like developer forums or subreddits. I don't think there are any threads for it here either. I'm not a big RimWorld player at all (only put a few hours into it at various stages of the alpha) but this has certainly been my experience with Factorio, already my most-played game on Steam. In my experience, this forum and its predecessor had a massive blind spot for huge-playtime PC games (builders, 4X, colony simulators, etc.), probably due to how the pace of conversation and the user base here both tend towards coverage of the constant churn of new console releases. Instead of flipping at the equator, there is a seasonless crossover zone.
